Great study this am out of Japan, where they report on the complications from the longest running surveillance program for a mesenchymal stem cell re-implants in the knee. They looked at 45 knees in 41 patients for an average of between 5-137 months (11 years plus). They observed no tumors or other issues with the re-implants. This is consistent with our own published safety data on 227 patients as well as our recent analysis of 339 patients with about 60 sites tracked by 3.0T MRI (the latter not yet submitted for publication). The data continues to support the excellent safety record of MSC’s used for orthopedic purposes.
