Regenexx Procedure Helps Patient return to Ski the Longest Run in the World

The Vallée Blanche on the Aguille du Midi is the longest ski run in the world at 17 km (10.6 miles) and is located in Chamonix France. CM is a 56 year old international businessman who injured his knee running to catch a plane. When he was first seen in December of 2009, he had already had 9 months of unrelenting knee pain severe enough to cause limping and keep him up at night. His MRI showed tears in both the medial and lateral meniscus and swelling under the knee cap. He had heard from his physician friends that cutting out pieces of the meniscus in arthroscopic surgery was more likely to cause knee arthritis and an early knee replacement, so he contacted our clinic. His exam also showed that his MCL ligament (the duct tape that holds the inside of the knee joint together) was loose. The patient underwent the Regenexx-C procedure in March of 2010, with injection of cells into the meniscus tears under imaging guidance. The patient underwent a second Regenexx-C injection procedure in April. The patient sent us the above video last week along with a note that his knee pain was completely resolved and that his knee functioned perfectly during his recent ski trip to Switzerland and down the longest run in the world (which from looking at the video, may also be the hardest ski run in the world to access). We’re glad to hear that CM is again tearing up the slopes and that his result is holding up well almost a year out from his two injections. More importantly, CM had no surgery, no need for extensive rehab, very little downtime, and still has all of his very important meniscus tissue in his knee. As always, CM had a great result, which doesn’t mean everyone gets the same result.
