What is Regenexx?

This past month we held our biannual RegenexxNetwork provider course. It was a huge affair, lectures every morning and cadaver labs every afternoon for 5 arduous days. Every provider had to demonstrate that they could diagnose and then place an injection into a specific structure using precise guidance with Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, or both. We made the decision awhile ago that Regenexx was blazing the trail for a new medical speciality-Interventional Orthopedics. While other providers may decide to either place magic stem cells somewhere in the vicinity of where they could do some good or just sprinkle them into traditional surgeries, for us, these new biologic technologies call for a reboot of how we approach orthopedic patients. Everything from the things discussed in our book, Orthopedics 2.0, to highly precise injection skills, to just spending more time with the patient. This is from our “Information for Physicians” page:

Regenexx is not a product, but a series of medical procedures that define what we consider a new medical specialty-Interventional Orthopedics. Regenexx is also not an add on to existing surgical procedures, but instead a new way of approaching orthopedic problems. We are looking for a few well trained, board certified musculoskeletal medicine specialists to join our exclusive network. Joining the network involves extensive training and most providers who apply are not accepted due to lack of basic training in interventional orthopedics (fluoroscopy and MSK US guided injection based procedures). In addition, the ability to perform an in depth, complex musculoskeletal exam lasting more than 25-30 minutes of hands on time with the patient is required or must be learned. This includes the ability to quantify problems of stability, nerves, muscles, joints, and body symmetry. Do you have the skills to join our growing team of providers? Fill out the form below to find out.

Wouldn’t it make more financial sense just to take any Tom, Dick, or Harry physician that had a board certification in something? Not if we want to keep the quality high as we grow. In addition, to us, this isn’t about just bolting magic stem cells onto an existing practice, but a re-invention of orthopedic care from the ground up – Interventional Orthopedics.

Chris Centeno, MD is a specialist in regenerative medicine and the new field of Interventional Orthopedics. Centeno pioneered orthopedic stem cell procedures in 2005 and is responsible for a large amount of the published research on stem cell use for orthopedic applications. View Profile
