1 of 2 Slots for the 2016 Interventional Orthopedics Fellowship Announced

2016 Interventional Orthopedics Fellowship 1st slot winner

We’re proud to be the only dedicated Regenerative Medicine Fellowship focused on Interventional Orthopedics that includes intensive training in advanced injection techniques for all parts of the body. We will be enlarging our traditional one year program in 2016 to take two fellows. Yesterday we announced the first slot was filled by offering the position to the 2015-2016 chief resident at the Emory PMR program, Christopher Williams.

Emory has a great program that fits well with our fellowship in that residents have the opportunity to get significant hands on spine and peripheral joint ultrasound training. There’s also a regenerative medicine component under Ken Mautner, M.D. In fact, Chris has taken the lead there with further expanding an excellent ultrasound training experience to allow residents to get even more hands on training. We look for that type of resident initiative in our fellows, as if this young field of Interventional Orthopedics is to grow and prosper, we need leaders like Chris.

Chris was in the military and has already seen a bit of the world, already serving as a research assistant in a regenerative medicine project to restore function to the limbs of vets with severely injured extremities. He received a Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship and graduated Summa Cum Laude from college. He attended Emory for Medical school and received the Erich G. Randolph Scholarship in 2009. He was named resident of the year at the Emory PMR residency for 2013-2014 and is now their chief for his last year. On a personal note, this is a bright young physician with a passion for changing the world, a great fit for our program.

The upshot? We still have one slot open and many applicants, so we’ll be back on the interview trail during the next few months. Our program is unique in that there simply isn’t another one like it where young doctors can spend a year focused on Regenerative Medicine and learn the advanced spine and peripheral joint techniques that will make up the mainstay of their future in medicine. We’re proud to have a physician of Chris’ caliber and look forward to finding the second resident for our 2016 fellowship!
