Severe Hip Osteoarthritis Treatment Case Study
Dr. Centeno’s Analysis:
This is actually a story of two hip patients, grouped together here because of the similarities in their clinical response and presentations. Both of these patients (Bob and Scott) had very severe hip arthritis with large bone cysts (holes in the bone under the cartilage that had collapsed). Bob was in his early 60s and Scott in his late 40s.
Severe Hip Osteoarthritis Treatment Outcome:
Both of these patients were in desperate need of a hip replacement, but neither wanted the surgical risk of the procedure. As a result, they both underwent multiple stem cells transplants via injection.
Images / Data:
The most important part of their image analysis and outcome is likely the “new roof” grown over the bony cysts. In many ways, these cysts are like the roof of a house that caves in and leaves in the hip joint a mess. Bob went back to gymnastics about six months after this second procedure, and Scott (whose hip was even more severe to start) significantly increased his activity levels while decreasing his pain. Scott’s image is below, which is representative of these patients. Note the increase in the “roof” of the main cyst. Bob’s images are attached.
