Shoulder Surgery Risks and Complications
- Risk of infection – both after surgery as well as later if bacteria in the blood “seed” and grow on the prosthesis.
- Risk of Blood Clots in the legs (DVT) and/ or lungs (PE)
- Painful Post shoulder surgical recovery
- Prolonged shoulder surgery rehabilitation
- Chronically limited range of motion, “frozen shoulder” and reduced activity level
- Nerve damage from the procedure leading to arm/hand numbness and weakness
- Severe pain, stiffness and loss of use of the arm and hand (complex regional pain syndrome), which is uncommon.
