An Alternate Way to Deal with Dangerous NSAID Side Effects
Yesterday I blogged on the push by the American Heart Association and others to limit NSAID prescriptions due to the severe health risks associated with taking these drugs. Rather than dealing with the dangers of NSAID drugs, I would suggest a different approach. Convince providers to stop throwing dangerous pain killers at patients and use non-toxic alternatives that have been shown in clinical studies to help patients. This would also include narcotics. In addition, perhaps even more importantly, take the time to understand what’s wrong and fix the problem. The patient’s knee hurts? Do something to the knee or the other structures causing the knee to hurt and don’t just write a prescription. Spread the word…
