A local company unveils what they say is the first commercially-available stem cell treatment that uses a patient's own stem cells to regenerate bone and cartilage. Regenerative Sciences announced its new Regenexx procedure today. It's primarily used for those who have debilitating orthopedic conditions. It allows the stem cells to attach to the cartilage and grow new cartilage. This is someone who would be looking at a major downtime procedure, someone who might be out for 6 to 12 weeks and not able to walk without assistance after a total joint replacement, who can now literally walk into the office, get a series of injections, and, over time, regrow or repair portions of that damaged joint. Now, so far clinical trials have shown Regenexx to be safe.
