Hyaline Cartilage Created by Platelets and Stem cells

knee

A recent paper at the cartilage repair society discussed how platelets injected with mesenchymal stem cells into a rabbit cartilage defect repaired the cartilage with high quality cartilage. While this is not a new finding (there are literally hundreds of papers like it using every imaginable type of prep with MSC’s), it has hit the lay media.  What’s important here is that the platelets seems to have had a positive impact on the cartilage repair.  This makes sense, as in an injury, they would be released to help the stem cells in the bone marrow do their work.  We have been using a platelet technology with our stem cell treatments for years, so for us this is continued verification that the technique works.
