Valerie Avoids Jaw Replacement for TMJ

  • Patient’s Name: Valerie
  • Age/Age Group: 55+
  • Body Part: neck and spine
  • Condition/Injury: temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
  • Top concern: neck pain
  • Treatment: Regenexx-SD
  • Doctor: Chris Centeno, MD, Centeno-Schultz Clinic

At 60 years old, Valerie had a history of TMJ since she was 18. It all began with having her wisdom teeth removed as a teenager. Then, at 55, her jaw locked and she experienced intense TMJ pain that got progressively worse.

Additionally, she had also suffered from whiplash, head injuries, fractured low-back vertebrae, and an injured sacroiliac (SI) joint. She was on a liquid-only diet, forced to blend her meals and drink them. She had tried nearly every TMJ treatment without much relief.

Then she met with Chris Centeno, MD, at the Centeno-Schultz Clinic. He examined everything from her low back to her neck to her jaw and believed the best course of action for Valerie would be Regenexx-SD.

Over the ensuing 18 months, he treated the TMJ joint and spinal discs; all of the TMJ ligaments, including some on the inside of the joint; damaged facet joints in the neck; neck ligaments; her SI joint; bulging and painful spinal discs; and her alar and transverse ligaments.

“The last procedure in September was extremely successful,” she wrote to Dr. Centeno. “By October I was back to solid foods (carefully), and in November I could eat just about anything. Additionally, I can now feel that my head is literally on straight. I have an entirely different orientation and feel much more comfortable. The benefit has been tremendous.” You can learn more about Valerie’s case, here.
